Semantic Markup

For increased semantic modularity, searchability and discovery, the following microformats have been used:

• XFN
   

  To indicate relationships between friends, people and websites.

  See my connections

• hCard
   

  hCard is a simple, open, distributed contact information format for people, companies, and organizations.

• hReview
   

  hReview is an open standard for distributed reviews, to enable and encourage the sharing, distribution, syndication, and aggregation, of reviews.

• rel-home
   

  All pages have rel=home links to aid navigation in text-only browsers.

Standards Compliance

• blog.debajit.com validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. I’m working to ensure that every page of this site is valid XHTML 1.0/CSS.
• For example, check the homepage of my blog for XHTML validity
• All pages of this website comply with Priority 1.0 Guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0. I am currently working on securing Level Triple-A Conformance.

Access keys

Most browsers support jumping to specific links by typing keys defined on the web site. On Windows, you can press ALT + an access key; on Macintosh, you can press Control + an access key.

All pages on this site define the following (”standard”) access keys:

Visual design

• This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
• If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets (or Javascript) at all, the content of each page is still readable.
• This site degrades gracefully in a mobile or PDA for optimal viewing. In such devices, an additional link is made available which allows a user to see a text-only version of the site.
• mobile.debajit.com (also m.debajit.com) is a text-based simplified version of this site, for fast and optimized display on any user agent. (To be up soon)

Links

• Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article)
• Links are written to make sense out of context.

Images

• All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.
• Complex images include LONGDESC attributes or inline descriptions to explain the significance of each image to non-visual readers.
